Jewish Life

Through a combination of formal and informal Jewish Studies, High School students explore all aspects of the religion. Students gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:
  •  their Jewish heritage
  •  the Hebrew language
  •  prayer
  •  the observance of rituals

Students also have the optoin of studying Talmud either as an elective subject or after school.

All special days and festivals are celebrated and Shabbatonim are held regularly throughout the year.

Years 9 – 11 students attend our annual residential "Counterpoint" seminars, which offer an intensive religious and Zionist experience.

Year 10 students have the opportunity to take part in the Israel Study Tour (IST).

Year 11 students may participate in the March of the Living, which takes them to Poland - visiting the sites of various concentration camps and on to Israel. Year 11 students also participate in "Ethics and Philosophy" courses, which are designed to prepare them for Jewish living.

Participants in all programs are encouraged to look at their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social links with their Jewish heritage and Israel, emerging more integrated and at home with their Jewish identity.

Moriah has embarked upon the NETA Program for the teaching of Hebrew in the High School. NETA is a new-state-of-the-art Hebrew Language curriculum created by specialists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Schools in Melbourne, Canada and the USA, as well as other schools in Sydney, have adopted this successful program.

NETA is based on the belief that the mastery of Hebrew will promote students’ understanding of their history, culture and religion, excite them about life-long Jewish learning, foster a sense of belonging and cutivate strong ties with Medinat Yisrael and Am Yisrael.

Through the NETA program, students immerse themselves in everything from Classical Hebrew texts to Israeli music, and from historical documents to poetry and drama.
