Jewish Life

Through a combination of formal and informal Jewish Studies, Middle School students explore all aspects of the religion. Students gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:

  • their Jewish heritage
  • the Hebrew language
  • prayer
  • the observance of rituals

All special days are celebrated as a Middle School community whereby all students are actively involved in participating in the festivals.  Our emphasis is on active involvement and participation in age appropriate and student centred activities.

Year 8 students attend our annual residential "Counterpoint" seminars, which each offer an intensive religious and Zionist experience.

All students are encouraged to look at their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social links with their Jewish heritage and Israel, becoming more integrated and at home with their Jewish identity.

Moriah has embarked upon the NETA Program for teaching  Hebrew in the Middle School. NETA is a new-state-of-the-art Hebrew Language curriculum created by specialists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Schools in Melbourne, Canada and the USA, as well as other schools in Sydney, have adopted this successful program.

NETA is based on the belief that the mastery of Hebrew will promote students’ understanding of their history, culture and religion, excite them about life-long Jewish learning, foster a sense of belonging and cutivate strong ties with Medinat Yisrael and Am Yisrael.

On the NETA program, students immerse themselves in everything from Classical Hebrew texts to Israeli music, and from historical documents to poetry and drama.
