Jewish Studies at the Pre-Schools includes the sharing of stories, celebrations and festivals in accordance with the Jewish calendar. There is a strong commitment to ensuring that the children participate and come to understand the Jewish festivals and holy days and their significance. Families are encouraged to support and embrace the Jewish celebrations within their own home and family life. Fridays are a very special day at the Preschools when children and educators celebrate Shabbat together.
Our Jewish Studies Coordinator, Velvel Lederman, spends time each week in each room sharing Jewish values, lessons of the Torah and cultural traditions and practices through stories, songs and drama. The Hebrew program also includes weekly visits by Danit Ilsar during which children are introduced to Hebrew conversation, and language through songs, dances, games, stories and other play and learning experiences.
Velvel and Danit spend time in each classroom building relationships with the children, exploring concepts introduced in Jewish Studies and extending Hebrew conversation through play and learning. The Jewish Studies and Hebrew Program is integrated throughout the year by each of the educators. At the end of their early childhood experience the children have a strong sense of their Jewish heritage and an understanding that they are a valued part of a wonderful and dynamic Jewish community.
