Social Science

Through covering a diverse array of subjects, the overall philosophy of the Social Science Department is to give students as much practical instruction as possible. The curriculum is aimed at teaching conceptual issues and emphasising skills for the 'real' world, rather than simply focusing on traditional textbook activities and theories.

Subjects offered in Years 9 and 10 include:

  • Geography
  • Commerce

Subjects offered in Years 11 and 12 include:

  • Geography
  • Business Studies
  • Economics
  • Legal Studies

Geography offers a range of fieldwork experiences. Students are given the opportunity to explore their environment at locations in and around Sydney.

In Commerce, Business Studies, Economics and Legal Studies, expert speakers are often invited to address students and excursions to locations such as courtrooms and businesses are conducted on a regular basis. Students can apply their knowledge to real life activities via co-curricular programs such as the Stock Market game and Young Achievers.

As a part of our focus on differentiated teaching and learning, there is also a Gifted & Talented program in Years 9 and 10, giving select students the opportunity to be involved in enrichment studies. A contribution to this is made in Junior Geography by streaming top students into high achieving classes.
