Reggio Emilia
preschool-image2.gif

Reggio Emilia, named after the small city in Northern Italy where it originated, is embraced by our Preschools. Our teachers study and discuss the Reggio Emilia philosophy, reflecting on it, questioning current practice and then re-conceptualising both, always in relation to our Australian Jewish Preschools.

Reggio Emilia sees the child as powerful, strong, resourceful and competent in interacting and communicating.

There is respect for the child’s individuality, uniqueness, differences and subjectivity.

The image of the child is that of an individual within the group rather than a group of individuals.

Documentation is a very important aspect of the Reggio Emilia approach. It makes the learning visible. Documentation includes:
  • samples of a children's work at several different stages of completion
  • photographs showing work in progress
  • written comments by the teacher or other adults and transcriptions of children's discussions
