Leadership

As part of the College’s commitment to educate for leadership, organisation and communal responsibility, High School students are encouraged to participate in the many leadership schemes available.

From the Year 12 student body, students and staff elect:

  • two College Captains
  • two Vice-Captains
  • eight House Captains (two per House)
  • two Sports Captains
  • six Portfolio Captains

The High School Student Representative Council comprises of four representatives from each year with the Year 12 representatives as chairpersons. The Council meets weekly to discuss High School matters and to make suggestions to the College Principal.

Year 12 students are encouraged to become Portfolio Captains for any of the following portfolios:

  • Jewish Life and Zionism
  • Social Action
  • Charity

Two Year 12 Portfolio leaders are elected to each portfolio and they are joined by a committee made up of eight representatives from Year 10 and and four from Year 11. Year 9 students are also encouraged to join on a voluntary basis.

Many leadership opportunities exist within the House system. Students from Year 10 -12 can hold roles as House Convenors in areas of:

  • Sport
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Debating
  • Publicity

Convenors are mentored by House Captains, who help them to develop their leadership skills to their full potential.

As part of the leadership scheme, Year 12 students have the opportunity to participate in at least one leadership activity (non-elected), eg: maths tutoring or mentoring for, say, younger students who may need some assistance.

These programs are all designed to allow students to develop leadership skills and gain an understanding of the responsibilities involved in managing projects, other people and their own time.

Most importantly, the students benefit from working in a team situation and learn to become leaders within a community.
