Music Music At Moriah College students have the opportunity to develop their musical abilities and explore their potential. Music plays an important role in both the cultural, social and religious lives of the students. By acquiring the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for active engagement and enjoyment in performing, composing and listening students are able to make music a continuing role in their lives. STAGE 4 MANDATORY COURSE: MUSIC In order for students to fully realise their potential we offer an enrichment class in Years 7 and 8. Maximum of 20 students. Students engaged in Instrumental study inside or outside the College are invited to apply for a position in this class by sitting the test for selection. In Years 7 and 8 the Music Course is semesterised. STAGE 5 ELECTIVE COURSES: MUSIC A strong Instrumental/Vocal Music Programme plays a part in students selecting this subject. However, classes for these elective courses are still derived from the broadest possible student choice that is then developed into two elective lines. These classes are mixed ability classes. Class sizes vary and numbers are limited by the technology available in each learning area. STAGE 6 YEARS 11 & 12 ELECTIVE MUSIC: The Stage 6 Music classes are constructed from the broadest student selection profiles and then developed into 6 elective lines. Music usually appears on 2 of those elective lines as the College endeavours at all points to maximise student choice. Students who have developed some expertise on a musical instrument or in the vocal area and have shown an interest in the more theoretical areas of the subject in Stage 5 are encouraged to take the Music 2 Course. Class sizes are small to large in numbers depending on the number of students involved in the Instrumental/Vocal Programme in that year.
