Personal Development, Health & Physical Education (PDHPE)

The Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) program from Years 9 and 10 includes practical and theory lessons, with these two components often being integrated. Practical units of work include:
  • aquatics
  • track and field
  • gymnastics
  • games
  • fitness
  • recreational activities
A range of theory units are taught including those which focus on:
  • improving self esteem and relationships with others
  • promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours
  • understanding the workings of the systems of the body
Students have an opportunity to study Sports Science as an elective subject.

Moriah students have been able to include PDHPE as a Higher School Certificate subject since 1993. Moriah’s PDHPE staff have been actively involved in the development of the HSC curriculum through work with the Board of Studies and the Association of Independent Schools.

Year 11 students are also offered the 1 unit Content course: Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation, as part of their Stage 6 Preliminary Course units. Students may elect to study this course instead of, or as well as PDHPE.
