Visual Art & Drama

The Visual Arts and Drama Department gives students the opportunity to make sense of, and participate in, their increasingly visual world; to develop their creativity and conceptual strengths; and to become a critical participant in contemporary culture.

Visual Arts students are offered a wide range of learning activities in a variety of art medium such as:
  • Painting
  • Ceramics
  • Sculpture
  • Still Photography and Digital Imaging (electives in Years 9 and 10)
  • Computer Graphics
  • Digital Video
Students in Years 9 and 10 receive an intensive Extension and Enrichment Program, where they are challenged to create postmodern, conceptual representations. Studies in the Visual Arts are regularly enhanced with gallery visits and site excursions providing stimulus for practical work.

Moriah Visual Arts students consistently perform in the top 10% of the State in the HSC, and are regularly featured in “Art Express”. Many Moriah graduates continue their Visual Arts experience at a tertiary level, pursuing careers in areas such as Graphic Design, Fine Arts and Visual Communications.

Drama at Moriah engages students in the creative process of sharing, developing and expressing emotions, ideas and events. Students acquire skills making, performing and appreciating drama and theatre through active, experiential, critical and reflective practices.

Drama students are offered a wide range of contexts through which they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills individually and collaboratively including:
  • Improvisation
  • Mime
  • Movement
  • Playbuilding
  • Ancient Greek Theatre
