The welfare of every Moriah student is of the utmost importance to the College. Students may have concerns or issues they need addressed and, more often than not, the classroom teacher manages. However, when there is a specific problem that requires more expertise, the matter is referred to the Year Coordinator, a teacher who is assigned to the Year and is ultimately responsible for the academic and emotional progress of each student.
Working closely with the Year Coordinator is the Head of Welfare, an executive member of staff.
As a further initiative, the High School has a “Tutor” system, which operates within the House system for each year group. Tutor groups are both roll call groups and welfare centres. Each year group has eight tutor groups of approximately 18 – 20 students - two tutor groups per house in each year group.
Students are assigned to a tutor group with family members and remain in the same group until they graduate at the end of year 12. They are encouraged to share their concerns with their tutor teacher, who keeps an eye on issues such as absences from school, organisational problems, time management and the use of the school diary, and alerts the Year Coordinator if further guidance is needed. |
