Introducing our 80 in 80 project!

Over the next few months we'll be posting 80 videos, featuring some of the people who have a connection to Moriah's history.

1. The College's Founder, Abraham Rabinovitch (z'l), as told by his great-grand-niece, Dr Sue Morris. We can only imagine the pride he would feel to know that  Moriah has become one of the cornerstones of the Sydney Jewish community.

2. From 1981 until his retirement in 2001, Morrie Finberg's (z'l) wit and wisdom, his passion and commitment for Jewish Education, and his love for Moriah College, touched the lives of thousands of students, parents and teachers. Thank you to Maxine for sharing Morrie's story.

3. Velvel Lederman was one of the first Moriah students to return as a staff member. He has been teaching at Moriah since 1978 and after an incredible 45 years, his enthusiasm is still as strong as ever!

4. With an incredible 37 years of service as a Maths teacher at Moriah, Evie Apfelbaum has seen the College grow from a single building in Vivian Street, to the thriving campus that it is today.

5. Emeritus Professor Bettina Cass AO, was one of a handful of students in that very first class when Moriah opened its doors as the North Bondi Hebrew Day school and Kindergarten in 1943.

6. Sam Fisher (z'l) was a Moriah College Board member for an incredible 36 years  during what is considered Moriah's most significant period of growth. We are so grateful to Sam's wife Joan, for sharing her Moriah memories.

7. Professor Michelle Haber AM and Stephanie Schwarz OAM, are the daughters of Harold Nagley (z'l), Moriah's first College Principal. Over 14 years he transformed Moriah into a thriving institution. Michelle is a former Moriah School Captain and Stephanie, a beloved Moriah teacher of 34 years.

8. Lionel Link took over from Harold Nagley as College Principal, in 1979. Under his 14-year leadership, Moriah witnessed many important developments and milestones.
Marilyn
9. Joining the staff at the College in 1980, Marilyn Immerman was a much-loved Moriah teacher for more than three decades. She was head of Jewish Studies for 12  years and has many fond memories of her time at the College.
Mark Schneider
10. Mark Schneider dedicated 20 years to the Moriah College Board in many roles, including College President. He was named a Life Patron in 2018.
Pearl Blasina
11. Pearl Enoch (later Blasina) was one of Moriah's first College Captains and graduated in Year 12, as part of Moriah's first HSC cohort.
Anne Joshua
12. Anne Joshua's 28-year teaching career at Moriah, began in 1973. She was instrumental in introducing enrichment programs for mathematically able students in the Primary and High Schools.
Judy Lowy
13. Judy Lowy's legacy is indelibly woven into the school's history for establishing the Moriah Foundation in 2011. She has served as its President ever since.
Melanie
14. Melanie Lindenberg served on the Moriah College Board from 1996 to 1998 in her role as President of the P&F, then remained on the Board for a further six years. Her support of Moriah's Music Program contributed enormously to its success.
Michael
15. It's impossible to think of Moriah without Michael Benstock coming to mind. A beloved teacher of Classical Hebrew for 40 years and instrumental in building the tefillah program, Michael's 'Benstock's Prayers' was the group that everyone wanted to be in! 
Roger Kaye
16. There were many achievements during Roger Kaye's Presidency including the establishment of The Moriah College Foundation and the conversion of the leasehold on the Queens Park site, to Moriah ownership.

17. Hanni Chalmers OAM was one of the first students to attend the North Bondi Hebrew School and Kindergarten in 1943. She has featured as a Living Historian for Project Heritage and has continued her association with the College for eight decades.
Ingrid
18. Ingrid Cohen joined the Primary School staff in 1974 and retired 25 years later, in 1999. She was also very involved with the Parents' and Friends' Association and has wonderful memories of P&F events.  
Robert Simons
19. By the time Robert Simons OAM was elected as College President, he had already been on the Board for 20 years. Robert was involved in every building project, and it was under his leadership that our incredible Queens Park Campus first came to life. 
N Franks
20. A much-loved Maths teacher for 24 years, Nicky Franks enjoyed several leadership positions  and her former students speak fondly of her expertise, care & kindness.  Nicky also pays tribute to her sister, Lesley Joel (z'l), our longest serving P&F President. 
Ilana Den
21. Ilana Den pays tribute to her mother, Edith Hausmann (z'l), Moriah's first librarian.  Over an incredible 28 year career at the College, Edith brought a wonderful level of professionalism to the library, growing the collection of books from 500 to more than 30,000!

22. One of Moriah's most significant milestones, the building of the Moriah College Primary School Queens Park Campus, took place during Roy Steinman's 10 years as College Principal. It was the first time that all Years K-12 classes were located on the one campus.  
Hilton
23.  Dr Hilton Immerman was appointed as Head of English at Moriah in 1978. During his ten years at the College he was instrumental in creating professional development opportunities for educators. He was recognised for his work in education with an OAM, in 2004. 
Epstein
24.  Ariella and Adam Epstein pay tribute to their mother Angela Epstein (z'l) who many alumni still remember as their favourite Primary School teacher. Angela's Moriah career spanned 30 years, from classroom teacher to assistant Primary School Principal.  
Esther
25.  Esther Wakerman was P&F President when our Queens Park campus opened, a pivotal time in the history of the College. She recalls working on two incredible musical productions - Fiddler on the Roof, and West Side Story.   
Annette
26. In 1984, Annette Ferrer was employed to cover a maternity leave position  for one year. She retired from Moriah, 37 years later!  A beloved educator, Annette was instrumental in introducing Society & Culture as an HSC course at Moriah.  
Chait
27.  Ivan Chait was instrumental in creating our 'go with the flow' traffic system as well as our PSG program,  Jill Chait devoted many years of her time to the P&F. Together, they have made a significant contribution to the College.  
Reuben
28. Reuben Shellim taught at Moriah for well over 25 years. His name is practically synonymous with our Israel Study Tour, having accompanied Moriah students on the tour more than a dozen times!     
Toni Britton
29. Tony Britton has been a member of the History Department at Moriah for 27 years, since 1996, and we look forward to having him at the College for many more years to come!      
Ruth
30. Dr Ruth Wilson is the co-founder of the transformative, inter-generational oral history program known as Project Heritage. This program has been an essential part of the Primary School curriculum since 1985.      
Gary Cobbin
31. For close to four decades, Gary Cobbin has been making the trip each day, from his home in the Blue Mountains, to teach at Moriah College.  He joined the Primary School in 1987 and is now a much loved educator in the High School. 
Suzanne
32. Professor Emerita Suzanne Rutland OAM has a connection with Moriah that goes back to the 1970s as a teacher, then a parent and Board member and also the author of the Moriah history book 'If You Will It, It Is No Dream'.  
Robert Gavshon
33. Robert Gavshon was elected to the Board in 1994 and assumed the Presidency in 1998, holding the role for seven years. He is now a Life Patron, Trustee and a Director on the Board of The Moriah Foundation.  His contribution to the College has been extraordinary.  
Freilich
34. The P&F was formed in 1952 with Diana Freilich (z'l) as the first President. The Freilich Family has a long history with Moriah College, as told by Diana's son, Rabbi David Freilich.   
Max W
35. Max Wahlhaus OAM (z'l) was instrumental in growing and developing the Hebrew and Jewish Studies programs at Moriah, as well as many of the experiential programs. His granddaughter Ashleigh Ludwig (Class of 2019) pays tribute to Max and his enormous contribution to the College.

36. Marie O'Connor - 'Miss O.C' - has been a fixture at Moriah for more than 30 years! Marie's contribution to our Sport program, as well as to countless co-curricular camps and activities, is legendary!

37. Moriah's Primary School was led by Donna Delbaere for 26 years during which time the College opened the new building at Queens Park, historically bringing Years K-12 together on the same campus for the first time. Donna's contribution to the College is extraordinary. 
Einfeld
38. For the past 80 years, the Einfeld family has been intricately woven into the fabric of Moriah College's history. Max Einfeld's connection with Moriah began as a student at the North Bondi Hebrew School and Kindergarten on Glenayr Ave in the early 1940s.

39. Sally Weiser started teaching at Moriah close to four decades ago however her connection began when her mother was secretary to College Principal, Harold Nagley.

40. Jonathan Caplan pays tribute to his mother, Sophie Caplan OAM (z'l) who introduced the Hans Kimmel Prize to the College in 1975. This essay competition is still one of the most powerful elements of the Jewish Studies program at Moriah.

41. Kim Kelly played a pivotal role in the historic transition with Years K-2 relocated to the new Primary School at Queens Park. During her 20 years at Moriah, her contribution to the Primary School was incredible.

42. Daniel Goulburn OAM has been connected to Moriah for more than 40 years. In this video, Daniel pays tribute to his wife Rochelle (z'l) a beloved teacher who devoted 34 years to Moriah.  During his time on the Board, Daniel played a pivotal role in realising the construction of our Primary School.

43. Jacqui Scheinberg's contribution to Moriah spans decades, encompassing roles as a Moriah parent and grandparent, a teacher for 22 years, and since 2021, a Director on the College Board.

44. Hilary Kahn has made an indelible mark on our Moriah community  during her remarkable 26 years of teaching in the Jewish Studies Department.        
Faye
45. Over 22 years, Faye Radom assisted hundreds of students and their families to successfully overcome a multitude of challenges. There are countless alumni who credit Faye for helping them complete their education. 
Dovid
46. As the composer of our school song, Dovid Honig's work is etched into the hearts of every Moriah student, alum, staff member and many parents.  
Lemberg
47. Max Lemberg OAM (z'l) devoted close to 50 years to Moriah College teaching Hebrew and Jewish Studies. He prepared hundreds of boys for their Bar Mitzvah and at 96, he was still leading prayer groups. Max's daughters Jeanette Lemberg and Vivienne Teoh, tell Max's Moriah story.
