Meet Our New Debating and Public Speaking Captain and Entrepreneurship Captain

Hannah Whitmont - Debating and Public Speaking Captain

Hannah Whitmont
As a new addition to our high school’s leadership body, I hope to entertain a sense of belonging, teamwork, and passion in the areas of debating, public speaking and mock trial, whilst increasing each student’s confidence and experience levels. Through educational and enjoyable training sessions with adept mentors, students are exposed to a range of expertise, building on their skills in the field of public speaking, and harbouring a passion for any selection of topics. I aim to bring passion to public speaking and to invite each and every student to participate in the wonderful program that is Debating and Public Speaking.

Joshua Todes - Entrepreneurship Captain

Joshua Todes
My name is Joshua Todes I am the inaugural Entrepreneurship Captain for 2018. My vision is an environment that fosters entrepreneurial drive and develops in the students the soft skills necessary to understand and navigate their future occupations. Entrepreneurial skills such as resilience, focus, self-reliance, drive, and innovation, to name a few, are not just skills relevant to commerce but are skills essential for life. The business environment is a catalyst for their development. Currently, MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) LaunchX Club, is an opt-in for students in Years 9-12. It runs a course giving students the tools and mindset to start real companies. This program helps these students to develop a business idea, enabling them to create a minimum viable product. Eventually, LaunchX teams from across the globe compete for a “best business" award. In this portfolio, I will work to introduce entrepreneurial programs like LaunchX to all high school students. My vision is to extend this initiative and develop a synthesized introductory entrepreneurship program in the primary school, promoting innovation from the get-go. Finally, I intend through this portfolio to establish an “entrepreneurship club” for students across the school who are interested in the concept of entrepreneurship. The club would provide speakers, resources and online courses and more importantly a thought-generating platform. Into the future, this portfolio will help bring entrepreneurial opportunities and events for all students at Moriah College.
